Screening of Some Maize Cultivars for Charcoal Rot in Northern Region of Telangana, India

Maize, a vital cereal globally, ranks alongside rice and wheat. Among the significant factors curbing maize yields, post-flowering stalk rot (PFSR) stands as highly destructive ailment. PFSR leads to yield reductions in from 10% 42%, occasionally may reach upto 100% specific regions. This emphasizes potential for elevating India's corn production by developing cultivating PFSR-resistant hybrids. In this study, 37 genotypes were evaluated induced Macrophomina phaseolina, using toothpick inoculation method at Agricultural College, Polasa, Jagtial. These consisting of 24 single-cross hybrids, 10 parents (6 lines 4 testers) three checks. Screening outcomes showcased spectrum disease reactions, ranging high resistance (score 1) moderate susceptibility 7) against caused M. phaseolina. Out genotypes, one inbred line (PFSR 135), testers (CML 286, CML 451, BML eight hybrids 51 × 6, 132 29 70 76 135 7, exhibited resistant reaction disease. parent can be exploited further development with charcoal resistance.
